Historically the fundamental relationships in a construction project have been between the Owner, the Architect, and the Builder or Construction Manager. Unfortunately the interests of these three parties are not always aligned.
Within this triumvirate, the Owner typically has the most at stake, and the least technical expertise. The Owner may also lack the resources to provide the leadership necessary to ensure that the project goals are fulfilled. The involvement of an Owner's Advocate acknowledges that the Owner can be well-served by having a knowledgeable construction professional dedicated to looking out for his or her interests.
On smaller projects, Andrew Dey may simply help to ensure that the process gathers momentum in the right direction, with the right team. Typical tasks include reviewing the plans, specs, and cost estimates, helping to build the team, establishing a project schedule, developing contracts, and confirming that proper due-diligence is completed. On larger projects, Andrew tends to be involved for the duration, participating in team meetings, making periodic site visits to review progress and address specific issues, approving requisitions, and ensuring that the building is properly completed, commissioned and handed off.
