Project Management

During the past thirty years, Andrew Dey has been involved in all phases of construction as a carpenter, a cabinetmaker, a self-employed general contractor, a construction manager, a developer and an owner. For a dozen of those years he directed the project management division of a company building energy-efficient timber frame buildings nationwide. Through managing the construction and renovation of dozens of homes and commercial buildings, Andrew has learned many lessons "the hard way," and he has developed a broad understanding of the ingredients for successful projects.

Andrew Dey's current focus in project management is the "deep energy retrofit" of existing buildings. Historically, energy upgrade efforts have focused on achieving savings on the order of 20% to 30%. We have the means and methods to achieve much greater energy savings -- up to 70% or 80%. The payback period for many of these energy improvements is measured in years, not decades. And the payback for the environment, in terms of reduced CO2 emissions, is ever more critical.

As a project manager, Andrew orchestrates the construction process in concert with the other key players. Successful projects are based on a firm foundation of trust, and the process is facilitated with clear, consistent communication. When unanticipated challenges arise, as they always do (this being construction), Andrew typically plays a central role in achieving resolution.
