Project Manager for Walpole Town Hall Energy Retrofit
In the spring of 2009 Andrew wrote a grant proposal on behalf of the Town of Walpole's local energy committee, for retrofitting two town buidings. The proposal requested $42,000 to do modest but important upgrades. The grant-awarding committee (State of NH PUC/Sustainable Energy Division) was sufficiently impressed by the proposal to award a total of $138,000 for more extensive energy upgrades. Andrew managed the implementation of the work, and is tracking the savings in money, heating oil, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Teaching Green/High Performance Building
In 2009 Andrew teamed up with The Jordan Institute to teach a course to commercial construction professionals on green/high performance building. The participants were site supervisors and project managers from some of the more forward-thinking construction companies in NH. Feedback from the students was positive, and as Andrew always finds when he teaches, the experience was educational for him as well.
Managing the High Performance Renovation of a Barn into Living Space
After lifting the barn to put a new foundation under it, Andrew and his team focused on creating a highly-insulated, air-tight shell. To quantify their efforts, they tested the building with a blower door before and after insulating, with impressive results. The utility bills from the first year of occupancy have confirmed the energy efficiency and low operating costs of this building.
Consulting on Schematic Planning for New Building at Dartmouth College
Andrew was tapped by his friends and former colleagues at Bensonwood to help with the preliminary project management for the design and planning of a new 12,000 SF building at Dartmouth college. When the team completed the schematic design package, Dartmouth's senior project manager commented: "I want to reiterate how much we at Dartmouth appreciate the work that your team has done for us and how impressed we have been at your capabilities. Thanks for all of the hard work and for meeting our schedule needs. We have a great concept design and cost package for this presentation." |
